LSAT Meeting Notes: 04 January 2011
Classroom Rearrangement
• 1st and 2nd grades moving downstairs, 3rd moving to original 1st & 2nd, 4th expanding.
Enrollment
• Projection = 259 based on 6/7/8 stable, Increase to K = 32, and 40 Pre-K.
• Large K, if accurate, may be a challenge.
Budget
• Original meeting was cancelled and quickly rescheduled without notice.
• 8-week process has just begun
• Timely and obvious community input is needed
• PPT from budget meeting will be provided by email
• Upcoming dates:
• Community Sessions 10 and 12 January
• Budget Due 3 February with presentation 25 February
• Additional LSAT meeting needed Late January: (25th? Caruthers will confirm)
• LSAT/Principal staffing discussion: potential new personnel or items

• Filmore is $293/student, ~$75K. Results may not justify the cost in money and time compared to an in-school alternative.
• Playworks impact at $25K is unclear. Perhaps a grant for an intern might free up that money.
• Afterschool budget is separate, but could we pay for drumming or music?
• Increase parent involvement: Coordinator, Training, “Telling Stories” by Teaching for Change
PBIS
• Mr. Zagami (sp?) coming. Leadership team meeting soon with implementation scheduled for the end of January after MLK Day.
Recruitment
• Plan has been emailed with Short, Mid, and Long-Term goals
• Margie Yeager needs input on
• Banners, flyers, and materials ~$3K minus refreshments budgeted
• Signage: logo, slogans, etc. (lawn signs, car magnets?)
• Swag package
• Finding prospectives: obtain DC resident data?
• House door hangers?
• Theresa will put out a “save the date” on local listservs
• We need to ID 3 and 4 year-old siblings of West students. need to be enrolled – not automatic as parents may assume.
• Door prize for Back-to-School night
• Additional target: Daycare centers
Fundraising
• Single large event rather that several small events may be more effective
• Blues Night as a fundraiser? Ms. Phillips is interested and has Blues Alley / Improv connections
• Dedicated coordinator/Planner will be needed
• Fashion Show as a fundraiser? This has been popular in the past.
• Poetry Slam: Check with Duke Ellington teacher who has done it
• Fundraising Baskets
