I am a native Washingtonian, born and raised and educated within the DCPS system (Bunker Hill ES, Alice Deal JH, and Woodrow Wilson SH). After completion of high school, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. I also earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Bowie State University in May of 2006. I am currently enrolled at Bowie again to pursue a degree in Secondary Education with a focus on Mathematics.
I have been teaching at West since June of 2001, where I began my profession of teaching as a summer school teacher and then began the school year as a part of the fourth grade team. Since then I have taught sixth grade as well as fifth-seventh grades Language Arts, and this will be my second year teaching Middle School Mathematics.
While teaching at West, I have tried to help build the school community in various ways. I have sponsored the Spelling Bee, and Beta Club for the last five years. I have been a part of the SCAC, LSRT, as well as the Building Rep. for the WTU, which I am honored to be again this year. I have also worked with the PTA in the past and am currently working on the PSCO Executive Board as one of the teacher representatives.
I enjoy working with children and I believe that teaching is where I can make a difference in someone’s life. My hopes and dreams for this school year is that every child learns to think analytically for themselves and to apply mathematical reasoning to everyday situations. My goal is for each student to achieve at their highest level both academically and socially.
I love spending time with my son and traveling and visiting friends as well as participating in activities sponsored by my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. My favorite book as a child was The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. It is the book that ignited my love for reading and it remains my favorite book.
I can truly say that West is like my family. I have spent all of my adult years here. |
