Principals Message
Happy New Year West Family,

As we prepare for the second half of the year, I am excited to work with each and every student, family and staff member. I am also looking forward to the academic and social growth that our students will experience in 2012.

At a Glance, here are a few highlights for the second half of the school year:

Family Math Night: Gain Financial Literacy and students will have the opportunity to start a savings account.

Preferred Activity Class (PAC): Students in K-8th grade will have a chance to learn a new skill once a week and showcase what they have learned in April. Staff will share their skills with students to highlight their talents as well. Classes range from cooking, drumming, photography, scrapbooking, singing, and more!

Family Reading Night: In partnership with the PSCO and IHOP, our annual reading night will be literacy focused and fun! ü Author’s Reading Program: Students will hear from local authors and share their love of reading with a copy of the author’s book!

Revitalized Monarch Butterfly Garden: A new recycled bench (Thanks Kuhn Family and PSCO) and new plants are in the garden and ready for the spring rain and sunshine. Participate in our spring clean as we look forward to seeing new plants grow and outside learning take place!

DC CAS: This is sure to be a week of fun and excitement for the students. This year we will have our lower elementary classes adopt a testing class, participate in a spirit week, host a parent prep night, and culminate with a celebratory dance! All of this positive energy will help our students TEST their BEST!

PBIS: Continue to reinforce positive behaviors with our school wide behavior system. This includes weekly drawings and middle grade activities. Students and staff are all recognized and we have seen a positive change in our classrooms. Please contact Mrs. Paige ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This is merely a sneak peek into the wonderful activities at West taking place in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to working with the West community as we continue to work toward excellence! Join me by attending the next PSCO meeting (February 22th) or by emailing me to see how you can get involved!
