Being a Room Parent is a fun and rewarding way to volunteer at West and be involved in your child’s education. As a Room Parent, you support your children, their classmates, and their teachers by helping to:

* Support your child’s teacher
* Communicate with class parents & enlist parent volunteers for
special activities
* Coordinate your classroom-sponsored booth at the Harvest Festival
* Encourage family participation at Family Reading Night and Family Math Night
* Prepare class gifts for the basket auction
* Recognize your teachers and support staff during Teacher
Appreciation Week and at the end of the year

A Room Parent’s number one job is to assist the teacher by keeping other parents informed of developments and opportunities to participate in the school and the classroom. Room Parents let other parents know what a teacher needs -- anything from volunteers to chaperone a trip to additional school supplies. Room Parents act as the glue and the conduit, helping parents and teachers work together by communicating class and school-related information (they’re often
among the first to know about upcoming events and activities) to parents and finding creative ways to get parents involved in the class.

Don’t worry, you won’t be alone! Most classes have several room parents who share responsibilities, so the commitment is not too great. We aim for about four room parents per class. Many tasks can be coordinated via email or after school hours.
